Wyclef Jean and Scribe Collaborate!

The 2008 MTV Australia Awards was a night New Zealand rapper Scribe won't be forgetting in a hurry. Not only did he win the title of NZ Artist of the Year, he really hit it off with Grammy Award winner Wyclef Jean!

The very next day after meeting backstage at the Awards in April, the pair entered the studio and emerged a few hours later with a remix of Wyclef Jean's 'Fast Car' a track from Wyclef's latest album Carnival Vol. II Memoirs Of An Immigrant.
"Wyclef had heard Scribe's music prior to them meeting and was so impressed that he invited him to perform a guest verse on the remix," explains Dirty Records labelmate, and co-owner P Money.

"I have to be a fan," Wyclef said, "It has to be challenging. The worst thing you can tell me is it can't be done. When I'm in the studio, what I'm most interested in is creating music that truly moves people wherever they may be in the world. By collaborating with my man Scribe from New Zealand, we created a vibe on this track that can truly cross boundaries."

"It was a great honour to have the opportunity to work with Wyclef," explains Scribe. "He has been an inspiration to me since I was a teenager and quite possibly I wouldn't be MC'ing today without his musical influence. I was the biggest Fugees fan and never dreamed I'd meet him, let alone be asked to record with him."

The original version of 'Fast Car' featuring Paul Simon appears on Jean's latest album Carnival Vol II Memoirs of an Immigrant. The remix is now available digitally. Mary J. Blige, Norah Jones, Shakira and Serj Tankian of System Of A Down have all contributed to the album, which is available digitally now.

Meanwhile, you can hear the remixed 'Fast Car' on Scribe's Myspace.
